LAS VEGAS — The Boring Company is setting its sights on one of Texas's busiest corridors. Elon Musk revealed over the weekend that the tunneling firm is working on what he called a "simple, precursor Hyperloop" linking Austin and San Antonio, targeting speeds above 200 mph and shrinking a drive that can stretch to two and a half hours down to a consistent trip of under 30 minutes.

Musk posted the idea on X on Sunday, in reply to an AI-generated video imagining a far-off future of human colonies among the stars, which he shared with the line, "This is the future we shall bring into being." A 30-Minute Trip Between Two Booming Cities

The pitch reframes the roughly 80-mile drive down Interstate 35 — one of the most congested stretches in the state — as a quick hop. Because Loop and Hyperloop routes run express, with no intermediate stops, the company said a rider could travel from an Austin parking lot to a favorite San Antonio restaurant in about half an hour, provided both ends have Loop stations.

That framing ties the intercity concept directly to the model the company already operates in Las Vegas, where passengers enter the tunnel network through small, garage-style stations rather than a single central terminal.
