Boring Company Runs Tunnels in Three Cities as Dubai Nears

LAS VEGAS — The Boring Company is quietly running one of the most ambitious tunneling operations in the country, boring beneath three American cities at once while lining up its first international project overseas.

Elon Musk's tunneling venture now has boring machines active in Las Vegas, Nashville and Bastrop, Texas, according to industry accounts of its expanding operations. The Las Vegas Loop remains the flagship: the underground network has carried more than four million passengers and continues to grow toward a system that county officials recently cleared to expand past 120 stations.

Three cities, one playbook

In Nashville, The Boring Company has partnered with Tennessee on the Music City Loop, an all-electric underground route designed to connect downtown, the Music City Center and Lower Broadway to the airport. In Bastrop, the company is boring near its own Texas headquarters, refining the manufacturing and tunneling techniques it first proved out in Las Vegas. Running three machines in parallel lets the company apply the same operational playbook across very different geographies at once.

The pace reflects a hard-won lesson: the biggest bottleneck in tunneling has always been the speed of the boring machine itself, and The Boring Company has focused relentlessly on driving that cost and time down. Faster, cheaper tunnels are what make an underground transit network economically viable in the first place.

Going global

The next frontier is abroad. The company has a Dubai pilot system under contract — roughly 6.4 kilometers of tunnel and four stations — with construction slated to begin later in 2026. It would be the first Loop outside the United States, and a template the company hopes to replicate in dense cities worldwide.

The expansion rides on the same electric-vehicle backbone that powers the rest of Musk's ecosystem, ferrying passengers in Tesla vehicles through the tunnels and dovetailing with the broader mobility push that includes Tesla's growing robotaxi footprint in the same city. As Teslarati reported, local officials keep handing the Vegas network new targets to build toward.

From a single Las Vegas convention loop to three-city operations and a Dubai contract, The Boring Company is scaling from novelty to infrastructure — proof that Musk's least-heralded venture is steadily digging its way into the mainstream.
