Grok Can Now Control Almost Anything in Your Tesla

SAN FRANCISCO — Grok has graduated from talking companion to genuine in-car controller. Tesla's 2026 Summer Update gives the xAI assistant the ability to operate a vehicle's hardware and software through ordinary speech — and to handle several requests in a single sentence — marking one of the clearest signs yet of how capable the system has become.

One Sentence, Many Commands

Where Grok once mostly answered questions and helped with navigation, drivers can now string together a list of instructions and watch the car carry them all out at once. In one widely shared demonstration, a driver asked Grok to fold the mirrors, set the wipers to their fastest setting, change the cabin temperature to 65 degrees, open the self-driving app and open the glovebox — and the assistant executed every step together.

That multi-command capability is a meaningful usability leap. Instead of tapping through menus, owners can simply speak naturally, keeping their attention on the road. The feature builds on Grok's rapidly expanding presence across Tesla and xAI products, which has grown quickly over the past several quarters.

What Grok Can Actually Do

According to Tesla's official release notes, Grok can now place phone calls from a paired phone, search a streaming service and queue up music, adjust climate settings and search the Controls panel. It can also handle driving settings, dynamics and other preferences that shape how the car operates, and answer questions about the vehicle or the latest software features.

As Teslarati noted in its hands-on look at the update, the assistant is now more of a practical tool than a novelty. Owners can offload routine cabin management to a single spoken request while Full Self-Driving handles the driving itself.

Faster, Smarter Responses

A less-heralded improvement is speed. Earlier versions of Grok could take a few seconds to formulate an answer; the latest build noticeably shortens the gap between a request and a response, making the back-and-forth feel far more natural. Combined with the multi-command handling, the result is an assistant that behaves less like a chatbot bolted onto a dashboard and more like an integrated co-pilot.

The upgrade also hints at where xAI and Tesla are heading together. With Grok's next major model already on the calendar, the in-car assistant is positioned to keep gaining capabilities through over-the-air updates. For Tesla owners, that means a vehicle that grows more helpful over time — turning voice control from a party trick into a core part of the driving experience and deepening the tie between the world's most valuable AI-driven automaker and the fast-moving Grok platform.
