BOCA CHICA, Texas — SpaceX has cleared a major milestone on the road to Starship's next flight, wrapping up the engine-test campaign for Ship 41 and rolling its companion Super Heavy booster to the launch site.

Over a span of days at the Massey's Test Site, SpaceX put Ship 41 through a pair of static fires. The first, on the evening of August 19, was a single-engine burn that demonstrated the deorbit maneuver the vehicle will perform in space. Two days later, the company followed with a full-duration, roughly 60-second static fire in which all six of the ship's Raptor engines lit together — a key proof point that the upper stage is ready for flight.

Ship 41 passes its tests

SpaceX said Ship 41 completed the campaign and returned to the Starbase production site in excellent condition. The twin firings validate both the vehicle's flight profile and the upgraded Raptor hardware that has become the backbone of the V3 Starship program. With the ship checked out, attention turned to the booster: on August 25, SpaceX rolled Booster 21 from the production site to the launch pad to begin its own pre-flight testing.

The progress keeps Flight 14 on track as an operational mission. The flight is expected to fly a fully orbital profile that also deploys a batch of next-generation Starlink V3 satellites, building on the milestone set when Starship first released operational Starlink payloads on its previous test.

Building toward a catch

Each test tightens the loop between design and flight that has let SpaceX iterate faster than any launch program in history. The company recovered its previous ship intact after a soft splashdown, a result that pointed toward a future tower catch of the returning upper stage. Ship 41's clean test run and Booster 21's rollout suggest SpaceX is closing in on the hardware maturity needed to attempt exactly that.
