AUSTIN, Texas — Tesla is giving its best-selling sedan a meaningful refresh. Every Model 3 sold in the United States, Puerto Rico and Mexico now ships with a larger 16-inch center touchscreen, and the dual-motor trims pick up more performance along with it.

Tesla North America announced the changes on X on Thursday evening, a day after the same screen upgrade reached Model 3 buyers in China, Electrek reported. The new 16-inch display replaces the 15.4-inch unit across the lineup, including the base Model 3 rear-wheel-drive car, and Tesla's comparison tool now lists it for every trim.

More Power, More Range

The Model 3 Performance is the headline of the update. Its EPA-estimated range climbs from 309 to 316 miles, a gain of seven miles, and Tesla lists peak power at 528 horsepower, up from the 510 hp it quoted when the car launched in 2024. The 0-to-60 mph time stays at an already-quick 2.9 seconds.

The Performance also gets the long-requested black headliner, giving the cabin a darker, sportier look. Outlets covering the update noted it mirrors the interior refresh Tesla rolled out on the Model Y earlier this year, as the company continues to bring its newest cabin hardware across the lineup, much like the new L and Performance trims on the Model Y.

Premium AWD Gets Quicker

The Model 3 Premium AWD sees the biggest jump in acceleration. It now reaches 60 mph in 3.8 seconds, down from 4.2 seconds, while its range is listed at 346 miles.

Pricing did not move. According to Electrek, the Model 3 still starts at $36,990, with the Premium RWD at $42,490, the Premium AWD at $47,490 and the Performance at $54,990. In other words, buyers get a bigger screen and, on the dual-motor cars, extra capability at the same price.

What to Know

The upgrade is not everywhere yet. Tesla's announcement named only the US, Puerto Rico and Mexico, and vehicle-to-load power, which China-built Model 3s now offer, is not part of the US update. Tesla has not said whether any of the extra power and range will reach cars already delivered, and the larger screen is a hardware change that cannot be retrofitted.

Still, the update shows how quickly Tesla keeps improving its core products. With the Model 3 now matching the Model Y's display and the company heading into a busy October that includes the Roadster reveal on Oct. 15, the newest Model 3 gives shoppers one more reason to take a look.
