AUSTIN, Texas — Tesla heads into its July 22 second-quarter report with more anticipation packed into the print than at any time in the past year. Options traders were pricing an implied post-earnings move of about 5.76% in either direction, the largest expected swing since traders braced for a roughly 6% move back in October 2025, a signal of how closely Wall Street is watching this release.
The heightened expectations follow a record delivery quarter and land at a pivotal moment for the company''s AI-and-robotics story. Tesla is set to report after the market close, with the earnings call to follow at 5:30 p.m. ET, and the numbers arrive on the heels of a bullish run-up in analyst price targets before the report.
A Record Quarter Sets the Stage
Tesla already delivered the good news on volume. Second-quarter deliveries came in at 480,126 vehicles, up 25% year over year and well ahead of consensus, while energy storage deployments jumped to 13.5 GWh, more than 50% above the first quarter. Those figures give Tesla a strong foundation heading into the report and explain much of the optimism baked into the stock.
Wall Street is looking for adjusted earnings of roughly 54 cents per share on revenue between $25.7 billion and $26.4 billion. With deliveries and capex already well understood, the profit line is the swing factor, and bulls are hoping Tesla extends its recent streak of double-digit earnings beats.
