AUSTIN, Texas — Tesla is taking its electric Semi across the Atlantic. The company has officially confirmed that the Class 8 truck is coming to Europe and that it will unveil full specifications and market-launch details next month at IAA Transportation in Hannover, Germany, the continent's largest commercial-vehicle show.
A September Stage in Hannover
The Tesla Semi account confirmed that "specs and launch details for Semi in Europe" will be revealed at IAA Transportation, which runs September 15–20, with a press preview expected on September 14. A Semi will be on display at the show.
It is the clearest signal yet that a European rollout is genuinely happening after years of the truck being described as "coming." The move marks a significant expansion beyond North America nearly nine years after the Semi's original 2017 reveal, and it opens the door to one of the world's largest sustainable-logistics markets.
Proven Specs, Megawatt Charging
Mechanically, Europe will get the truck Tesla is already building in Nevada. The company finalized two trims earlier this year: a Standard Range rated at about 325 miles with a 548 kWh pack, and a Long Range at roughly 500 miles with an 822 kWh pack. Both run three independent rear-axle motors producing up to 800 kW — about 1,073 horsepower — and support megawatt-class charging at up to 1.2 MW, recovering roughly 60% of range in 30 minutes.
Additional refinements include a roughly 1,000-pound weight reduction versus earlier prototypes, improved aerodynamics, a 48-volt architecture, electric power take-off up to 25 kW for refrigerated trailers, and fleet software with over-the-air updates. U.S. pricing sits near $260,000 for the Standard Range and $290,000 for the Long Range before incentives — the lowest-priced Class 8 battery-electric tractor on that market.
