NEW YORK — Tesla shares pushed higher Wednesday, with the stock trading around $399 at midday, up close to 1% from Tuesday's close as a fresh round of bullish analyst notes set a firmer tone ahead of next week's quarterly report.
Tesla — NASDAQ: TSLA — changed hands near $399.35 as of midday trading, up roughly $2.85, or about 0.7%, from Tuesday's close of $396.50. The move recovered the ground lost in Monday's pullback and put the stock back within striking distance of the $400 mark that has acted as a magnet for weeks.
What is driving the move
The clearest catalyst is a cluster of analyst price-target increases landing in the days before Tesla's July 22 earnings. Jefferies lifted its target to $400 from $375, Morgan Stanley moved to $417, and the consensus target firmed to roughly $408, while Deutsche Bank reiterated a buy rating and told clients it expects second-quarter deliveries to come in above Tesla's official count. The steady drumbeat of upgrades has given buyers a reason to lean in rather than wait on the sidelines.
Underlying the target hikes is a delivery quarter that already beat expectations. Tesla delivered roughly 480,000 vehicles in Q2, up about 25% year over year, alongside 13.5 GWh of energy storage deployments. With those figures in hand, the pre-earnings debate has shifted to margins, the Cybercab ramp, and robotaxi expansion — the pieces most likely to move the stock on July 22.
The tape and the numbers
