X Rebuilds Creator Pay to Reward Original Work

SpaceXAI-run X has launched Original Content Rewards, a stricter creator-pay model that pays only for original work and qualified impressions, and is suing an account network it says farmed fake engagement.

X Rebuilds Creator Pay to Reward Original Work

SAN FRANCISCO — X is putting real money behind original creativity. The SpaceXAI-run platform has replaced its old Creator Revenue Sharing program with Original Content Rewards, a redesigned model that pays creators for genuine, original work rather than recycled clips and engagement bait — and it is backing the shift with a lawsuit aimed at the kind of gaming the old system invited.

The move reflects a clear philosophy from the team now running X's product and AI work following xAI's acquisition of the platform: reward the people bringing new ideas, not those best at working the algorithm.

A stricter, fairer formula

X retired Creator Revenue Sharing on September 7 and opened Original Content Rewards the next day. The new math is deliberately tighter. Payouts now come only from qualified impressions — unique Home Timeline views from Premium subscribers where at least half the post is visible — and replies no longer count toward eligibility at all. Copied posts, reuploaded media and reposts without meaningful changes are explicitly excluded.

"The reality is that Revenue Sharing had reached a point where its incentives were misaligned," the X team wrote in announcing the change. Allegra Jacchia, senior product manager for creators at SpaceXAI, said the goal is to reward creators who bring original ideas and perspective, "not those who have become best at gaming the system."

Backing the policy with action

To show it means business, X has taken an alleged engagement-farming network to court. As Teslarati reported, the company filed suit in the High Court of England and Wales against operators it says ran six coordinated accounts posting near-identical "BREAKING" crypto headlines seconds apart, then liking and reposting the material among themselves to manufacture the appearance of genuine interaction.

X says the scheme pulled in at least £207,384 — about $278,000 — before the accounts were suspended in August. General counsel James Burnham said the company "will act forcefully to protect our platform and the earnings of genuine creators." Musk's own reaction was characteristically brief: "Don't mess with X."

Part of a broader SpaceXAI push

The overhaul fits the wider momentum inside SpaceXAI, where Grok is advancing quickly on the back of the newly shipped Grok 4.7 model and a fast-growing base of users. Cleaner incentives on X mean a healthier stream of original content — exactly the kind of high-quality, human-generated material that also strengthens the platform underpinning much of Musk's AI ambition.

Read together, the new rewards program and the lawsuit send one message: X is done paying for volume and is now paying for originality. For the creators actually making something new, that is a change worth welcoming.
