Grok 4.7 Set for Sept. 12 With 2.1 Trillion Parameters

SAN FRANCISCO — Elon Musk has put a firm date on the next big step for his AI company, saying SpaceXAI will release Grok 4.7 on September 12 with a 2.1-trillion-parameter architecture and a training edge drawn straight from SpaceX's own engineering work.

The figure is a headline number on its own. At 2.1 trillion parameters, Grok 4.7 is roughly 40 percent larger than Grok 4.6, which shipped last month with 1.5 trillion. Musk said the new model outperforms its predecessor in nearly every dimension, with higher token efficiency, trading only a slightly slower serving speed for the added scale. That pace continues a rapid release cadence that has produced three model generations in about two months.

The SpaceX Data Advantage

The most distinctive claim is not the parameter count but where some of the training data comes from. Musk said Grok 4.7's initial training is complete and the model is now in supplementary training to fold in SpaceX's proprietary corporate data — a corpus of aerospace design, manufacturing, and test information no rival can match.

That strategy is the throughline of the SpaceXAI approach. By feeding the model real engineering knowledge from rockets, satellites, and factories, xAI is aiming squarely at practical technical tasks rather than benchmark trivia. Independent evaluators scored it 61 on the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index, up sharply from Grok 4.5's 56 and level with the strongest general-purpose models on the market. Grok 4.7 is meant to clear that bar decisively, and Musk has said it will surpass every model currently available on release.

The push extends xAI's reach well beyond the chat window. Grok already spans live discussion on X, web research, file analysis, voice interaction, image and video generation, and coding assistance, and the same intelligence now underpins offerings like the government-focused Grok deployment rolling out to federal users. A stronger core model lifts all of it at once.

What to Watch on Launch Day

The open question is verification. When Grok 4.6 launched, xAI did not immediately publish a full benchmark suite, and third-party numbers trickled out over the following weeks. If Grok 4.7 arrives on September 12 with independent evaluations in hand, Musk's claim of category leadership will carry far more weight, especially with token-efficiency gains that could reshape API pricing.
