Tesla Launches 2026 Free Supercharging Competition for Owners

AUSTIN, Texas — Tesla is adding a new layer of gamification to its Supercharger network, launching a 2026 Free Supercharging Competition that will reward nine standout owners with free Supercharging for as long as they own or lease their vehicle.

Announced this week, the contest builds on the Charging Passport feature Tesla rolled out late last year, which functions like a year-in-review for owners. Accessed in the Tesla app under the Charging section, the Passport displays a map of visited Superchargers along with stats such as total energy charged, unique sites visited, total sessions, and miles added, plus collectible badges that appear within 24 hours of qualifying activity.

How the Competition Works

Every Supercharging session from January 1 to December 31, 2026, counts toward the competition. To participate, owners must enable "Share Charging Data with Tesla App" in vehicle settings and open the 2026 Charging Passport in the app at least once before January 1, 2027. In January 2027, Tesla will crown the winners.

Nine winners will be selected, three per region across the Americas, Asia-Pacific, and EMEA, with one winner in each of three categories. This is the latest example of Tesla weaving engagement features into ownership, a strategy that also shows up in the value-focused pricing covered in our report on Tesla's 0% APR offer on the Model Y.

Three Ways to Win

The categories reward different kinds of driving. The Longest Trip prize goes to the owner with the longest continuous streak of unique Supercharger locations, where each new site is visited within 24 hours of the previous session. The Most Unique Sites award tracks the highest number of distinct locations, and the Most Energy Supercharged prize goes to the highest total in kilowatt-hours, with ties broken by total energy charged.

As Teslarati first reported, vehicles already receiving free Supercharging, commercial-use cars, and Tesla employees are ineligible, keeping the field focused on everyday owners.

A Loyalty Engine That Pays Off

The competition fits a broader Tesla playbook. The Safety Score already rewards careful driving with a numerical rating, the referral program hands out credits and free Supercharging months, and in-app streaks and stats keep owners engaged. Layering a high-value prize on top encourages more road trips, boosts network utilization, and deepens owner loyalty, all while Tesla continues expanding its charging and software ecosystem alongside features like the latest FSD v14.3.4 update.

By turning routine charging into a friendly contest with real rewards, Tesla is betting that engagement begets growth. Expect heightened activity across the Supercharger network throughout 2026 as owners chase badges, plan epic routes, and compete for a lifetime of free miles, another sign that Tesla sees its charging network not just as infrastructure, but as a community.
