AUSTIN, Texas — Tesla's biggest Model Y yet is heading to American driveways. The company has begun assigning firm delivery windows to US buyers of the Model Y L, the stretched six-seat variant of its best-selling SUV, with the earliest customer deliveries expected before the end of September.

Buyers began seeing estimated windows appear in their Tesla app order trackers for the first time this week, ranging from late August through November depending on when each reservation was placed. Fresh orders are now being quoted for December, a sign of healthy early demand for a variant Tesla only began building weeks ago. The rollout adds a roomier flagship to a lineup that Tesla continues to sharpen with software and autonomy upgrades, including its latest Full Self-Driving roadmap.

Bigger, and Built in Texas

The Model Y L stretches the standard Model Y by about seven inches, opening room for a three-row, 2+2+2 six-seat layout. It carries an EPA-rated 325 miles of range and launches in a fully loaded Launch Series trim at $61,990, or $63,380 with the mandatory destination charge.

Crucially for US buyers, the L is built domestically at Gigafactory Texas rather than imported. The first US-made example rolled off the Austin line in early July, days after online orders opened, and display units reached showrooms later that month. The variant was originally developed for China, where it launched in August 2025 before expanding to Australia, New Zealand, India and several Southeast Asian markets — and Tesla ultimately pulled its American debut forward from an initially uncertain timeline.

Filling a Gap in the Lineup

The Launch Series bundles a year each of Full Self-Driving (Supervised), Supercharging and Premium Connectivity, along with free choice of paint, interior and wheels, plus Launch Series badging and trim details. It slots above the $57,990 Model Y Performance and roughly $22,000 above the entry rear-wheel-drive Model Y, giving Tesla a premium three-row option for families who previously had to look at larger, pricier SUVs.

The L's arrival also reinforces the argument that Tesla's value increasingly rests on a broadening product portfolio and its software edge, a thesis Wall Street analysts have been sharpening as the company layers autonomy, energy and new vehicle variants onto its core EV business.

Ramp Underway

Giga Texas is producing the L alongside the standard Model Y, the Cybertruck and the Cybercab, and the plant underwent tooling changes to accommodate the longer body. That shared line means the initial ramp will be measured, but the steady assignment of delivery windows signals the pipeline is filling.

For shoppers who want the extra seats, the message from Tesla is straightforward: as shown on the official Model Y configurator, the six-seat L is now a real, orderable product in the United States — and the first American families will be taking delivery within weeks.
