AUSTIN, Texas — Tesla has reached a meaningful Cybertruck production milestone at Gigafactory Texas, marking continued progress in scaling manufacturing of its unconventional stainless steel electric pickup truck.
Scaling a Unique Vehicle
The Cybertruck presented manufacturing challenges unlike previous Tesla vehicles. The ultra-hard stainless steel body panels require specialized forming techniques that differ significantly from the stamped aluminum and steel processes used on Model 3 and Model Y. Early production was deliberately slow as teams developed required tooling.
Tesla's philosophy of treating the factory as a product — iterating on production processes the way a software company iterates on code — has been evident throughout the Cybertruck ramp, with weekly output growing steadily as tooling improvements compound.
Giga Texas at the Center
Gigafactory Texas, which also produces the Model Y, serves as the sole Cybertruck manufacturing site. The facility has continuously expanded with new construction phases adding production floor space dedicated to Cybertruck assembly and stainless steel processing.
The milestone comes as Tesla works to reduce production costs to bring entry-level variants to market at more accessible price points, with long-term ambitions to make Cybertruck its highest-volume product in North America.
Looking Forward
Despite a long waitlist being gradually worked through since late 2023 deliveries, demand continues strong. With production scaling and Full Self-Driving becoming more capable on the platform, Tesla's Cybertruck outlook heading into the second half of 2026 appears increasingly confident.
