AUSTIN, Texas — Tesla is leaning harder into the Cybertruck's work-truck credentials, launching two new bed accessories aimed at owners who use the stainless-steel pickup for actual jobs rather than just showing it off.
The Cybertruck team added the Tailgate Utility Track and the Bed Gear Box to the Tesla Shop within minutes of each other, part of a five-item batch that also included a reflective jacket, a spray-paint hat, and an updated reflective tee. Both new pieces build on the modular mounting system Tesla designed into the truck from the start.
Two New Ways To Haul
The Tailgate Utility Track runs $350 and turns the folded-down tailgate into another mounting surface. It is a single aluminum track with a T-slot for sliding accessories and two L-track attachment points, plus two load stops in the box. The pitch is simple: strap down oversized cargo like lumber or a cooler that hangs off the back of the bed without it sliding out mid-drive. It bolts onto the existing tailgate and works on every Cybertruck trim.
The Bed Gear Box costs $985 and takes a different approach. It is a lockable aluminum storage box measuring 55.78 by 19.8 by 7.79 inches that mounts to the bed's L-track rails and ships with two internal bins. At just over 57 pounds empty, it is meant to stay put rather than come out with every trip, giving owners a factory-fit alternative to loose totes for tools, recovery gear, or emergency supplies. Long Range and Dual Motor AWD trucks need the separate L-Tracks accessory installed first.
Built On A Bigger Idea
Both accessories lean on a strategy Elon Musk described back at the 2023 shareholder meeting, when he said the Cybertruck would ship with mounting points so outside companies — and Tesla itself — could keep adding gear without redesigning the bed. That same L-track backbone underpins the tailgate shield, jumpseats, and off-road armor Tesla has rolled out over the past two years. The steady stream of first-party upgrades mirrors the way Tesla keeps expanding its broader lineup, from robotaxis to shop exclusives like its recent Dog Mode pet collection.
Momentum Across The Lineup
The accessory push arrives during a banner week for Tesla, which just opened Cybercab rides to the public in Austin. For Cybertruck owners, the message is that Tesla is still investing in the truck as a practical tool, not just a statement piece. With a growing catalog of bolt-on hardware, the Cybertruck is becoming as configurable as any traditional work truck — and a good deal more futuristic.
