AUSTIN, Texas — Tesla has quietly restored the Model 3 Premium Rear-Wheel Drive to its Canadian design page at $39,490 CAD, bringing back its most affordable version of the sedan weeks after the trim was pulled when Premium orders were paused.
What Is Back, and How It Works
For now, the return is a soft one. Canadian buyers can fully configure the $39,490 Premium RWD, but the checkout button is replaced by a "Get Updates" prompt that signs shoppers up for a notification when ordering reopens. The dual-motor Premium All-Wheel Drive is back under the same arrangement at $49,990 CAD. The Performance trim, at $54,990 CAD, remains the only Model 3 Canadians can order outright today, with a live Order Now button.
The staged comeback points to a familiar story for Tesla: demand outrunning supply. Premium ordering stopped in mid-October after the company said high interest had used up its quota for China-built EV imports — a constraint of logistics and trade policy, not appetite. The reappearance of configurable Premium builds suggests Tesla is preparing to reopen the order books once fresh allocation clears. The move keeps Tesla's most accessible sedan visible to shoppers even as the broader lineup keeps expanding, from new software to a steadily growing Supercharger network that just passed a new V4 milestone.
A Year of Price Moves
The China-built import quota has shaped Canadian Model 3 pricing all year. Tesla introduced a sub-$40,000 CAD Model 3 in May and a cheaper dual-motor Premium in June, both timed around broader trade discussions. Restoring the $39,490 entry point keeps the car competitive against a field of lower-cost rivals while preserving the value proposition longtime owners expect.
