AUSTIN, Texas — After years of anticipation, Tesla's next-generation Roadster appears to finally have a stage and a date. Tesla is planning to unveil the all-electric hypercar and hold a live demonstration at a single event in Texas in August, with the long-rumored SpaceX package expected to take center stage.
A Supercar Years in the Making
The next Roadster has become one of Tesla's most talked-about products, promising figures that read more like aerospace specs than automotive ones: a top speed of more than 250 mph and a driving range of roughly 650 miles on a charge. Tesla executives have said the supercar will be built in Texas, tying the halo car directly to the company's manufacturing heartland.
The August plan, reported by The Information, would pair the formal reveal with a working demo rather than a static show car. That matters because Tesla has framed the Roadster as a technology showcase, and seeing it perform live would let the company back up its specifications in front of an audience. Tesla has been on a roll with bold product launches, from the six-seat Model Y L heading to North America to a refreshed lineup that keeps widening its market.
The SpaceX Package
The headline attraction is the so-called SpaceX package, an options bundle Tesla has teased for years that is expected to deliver dramatically faster acceleration and, according to Musk, potentially even brief hovering capability using cold-air thrusters. It is the clearest expression yet of the cross-pollination between Musk's companies, blending rocket-inspired engineering with a road car.
