BOCA CHICA, Texas — SpaceX is moving quickly toward the next flight of the world's most powerful rocket. At Starbase, the Block 3 hardware for Starship Flight 14 — Ship 41 and Booster 21 — is deep into its test campaign, setting up what could be the program's most ambitious mission yet: a first orbital-class flight capped by an attempt to catch the ship with the launch tower.
Ship 41 Takes On Its Raptors
Ship 41 has already cleared some of its biggest early milestones. The vehicle completed two cryogenic proof tests on June 30 and began receiving its Raptor engines during the week of July 21. Using the preparation timeline of its predecessor as a guide, a single-engine static fire would follow roughly 20 days after engine installation, which puts Ship 41's static fire in the mid-to-late August window.
That cadence could stretch slightly if SpaceX decides to wait for additional flight data before finalizing the engine configuration, a prudent step given how much the company learns from each launch. The methodical pace reflects the lessons SpaceX has been folding in since it began pushing Starship toward reusability, including the heat-shield and orbital work outlined ahead of Flight 14's orbit and ship-catch goals.
Booster 21 Waits In The Wings
The first stage is tracking alongside the ship. Booster 21 completed its own cryogenic proof testing from July 18 to 20 and is now staged in Mega Bay 1 at Starbase, awaiting its static fire campaign. Once both stages have fired individually, SpaceX can stack them for a full wet dress rehearsal and, ultimately, launch.
