McGREGOR, Texas — Hours after its new Roadster hovered and flew across a Texas stage, Tesla did the thing buyers had been waiting nine years for: it opened the order books and put hard numbers behind the spectacle.
The headline figure is acceleration. Tesla says the Roadster will reach 60 mph from a standstill in about 1.9 seconds in its standard configuration, and in under 1.1 seconds for cars fitted with the SpaceX package — a sub-second feel off the line that Musk has long claimed would make it the quickest accelerating production car ever built. The configurator opened on the same storefront where Tesla recently opened orders for the Model Y Standard.
The Numbers Behind the Show
Beyond the sprint, Tesla quoted a top speed above 250 mph and a range of roughly 620 miles on a single charge, figures that would place the Roadster at the front of the performance-EV field on both outright speed and endurance. The company credited a new high-density battery pack and the thruster-assisted dynamics first shown at the reveal.
Pricing starts at $200,000 for the base car, Tesla said, with a $250,000 Founders Series that will be built first and carries a larger reservation deposit. Full specs and the order form are posted on Tesla's Roadster page.
